Maybe its the excitement. Maybe its technical issues. Whatever the case, The Sports Guy couldn't edit the regional baseball thread and this news is just too big to sit on.
The Powell Babe Ruth All-Stars moved within one victory of a spot in the semifinals with an 11-0 five-inning win over the Klamath Falls Nationals on Thursday night. Head coach Pudge Fagan called it a "total team effort" that included numerous stellar defensive plays, particularly in the outfield. Powell scored three runs in the first, two in the second, three in the third and its final three runs in the top of the fifth.
That was more than enough for pitcher Cooper Wise, who went the full five innings on the hill. Wise, along with teammate Justin Lynn, earned offensive MVP honors for the game. Brendan Phister picked up defensive MVP honors as the All-Stars improved to 2-1 in Oregon.
Powell has tomorrow to rest and relax before preparing for a Saturday contest against Kelso, Wash. If the All-Stars win that contest, they're in Sunday's semifinals. Even with a loss, the team has positioned itself nicely for a possible tiebreak scenario involving one or more teams.
The Sports Guy will be heading to Bozeman in the morning to follow the Pioneers, but keep watch on this blog and we'll update you as the weekend goes along on how things shake out as the Babe Ruth squad looks to advance out of pool play.
Go Powell Babe Ruth!!! Way to represent Wyoming!! Good luck to all:)
