On a Tuesday morning last month, Powell awoke to a bitterly cold January day that was made much brighter by sundogs. In addition to being dazzled by the early morning beauty, the Tribune staff also was happy to receive readers’ photos of the sundogs. Folks around the community captured lovely images and, to our delight, shared them with us. In turn, we were able to share them with the community in the Thursday, Jan. 29 edition.
We love seeing the world through local photographers’ lenses. While unusual weather spurred the recent outpouring of photo submissions, we enjoy receiving pictures whenever you have something noteworthy to share. So please keep the images coming. And don’t worry — we’ll be sure to give you attribution.
To further inspire local photo enthusiasts, I’d like to invite you to participate in our weekly photo themes. We recently began assigning a photo theme to help generate creative snapshots of everyday life in our community. Since last month, Tribune staffers have roamed around the town, camera in hand and theme in mind.
This week’s theme is “texture.” We try to make themes broad enough that the photographer has plenty of room for creativity.
Previous January themes included: Motion, weather, the color red, and shapes or patterns. Please feel free to contribute to any of these categories. Themes don’t expire.
So if you’re a photographer — trained, amateur, rusty or green — I invite you to participate in the Tribune’s weekly photo themes. We’ll post them on the blog each week so you’re in the loop. I can’t promise that all photos will end up in the paper, but they may end up on the blog or in an online photo gallery (coming soon…)
When you have an image to contribute, please e-mail it to: web@powelltribune.com.
Happy shooting!
...and of course you pay vast sums of money to the photographers whose work you publish , right ?
ReplyDeleteHa! 'Fraid not.
ReplyDeleteBut if it's any consolation, not even the guys and gals on staff get vast sums of money for their shots.
Yeah, please show me a small-town newspaper that pays "vast sums of money" for photography. If they really exist, they are probably in the process of becoming non-existent.
ReplyDeleteHappy with a decent living in public service, and not trying to keep a photography or other business alive, my artist spirit is happy for the 'exposure' of photos I may make.. Great outlet y'all provide.
