In yesterday's Tribune, Yancy, our managing editor, wrote a piece critical of non-constructive criticism. Specifically, she expressed frustration with the whiteboard writings of John Pung, owner of Anna's Cafe. You can read Yancy's piece
here.
Fittingly, Mr. Pung replied on his board.

My photography skills are a little rough, so if you can't read the sign, here's the typed version:
"Negative is that votes don't count! Waste taxpayer money to please a few. And - what is your point??"
Mr. Pung's other sign read, "You can't fix stupid."
I hope no one is giving up that easily.
I think a few "grumpy" folks who "calls them as they sees them" never brought an entire community down. Perhaps "tack" isn't his specialty, but his critique has some merit regardless of the abrasive application. We would all do well in leaving our egos at the door when it comes to the business of opinions and critiques.
ReplyDeleteBesides, people like Mr. Pung add colour to this world as well.
Same goes for the Polly Annas of this world... only thing, Powell's supply of Polly Annas is abundant.
I think the newpaper has their panties in a bunch over the freedom of speech by clearly not supporting this mans right and in fact trying to shame him out of posting more.
ReplyDeleteMr. Pung has put his "words into action" by sponsoring two fundraisers for the newly formed Frannie/Deaver fire district.
ReplyDeleteI think Mr. Pung has a very valid point....where is the City's comment in all this? Why aren't the business owners contacted when a street closure is planned? I'm sure the Powell Tribune would be upset if a power outage suddenly occurred when they are in the middle of a printing.
