A 20-year-old saddle bronc rider was killed during a rodeo accident in Jackson on Wednesday.
Nicolas Gillett of Cody died from a skull fracture during the Jackson Hole Rodeo.
Gillett’s spur got tangled in his saddle after he came out of the gate, and the horse stepped on or rolled over him, according to Associated Press reports.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family,” said Phil Wilson, owner of the rodeo. “The family is just devastated, and we are too.”
Gillett attended Powell schools and has family in the Powell area.
A memorial service for Gillett has been scheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday, June 28, at the Cody Stampede Grounds, according to a Facebook group set up in his honor.
